Every now and then I get asked how I got into this, so I thought I would do a post about how ToddyLive.com came to be. Back when I was 19 I actually had a “real” full-time job. I made enough to support myself, but that was about it. Through the grapevine I learned of a female co-worker who was generating additional income by allowing people to view her webcam. I wanted in. A few days later I was handed a small slip of paper with iFriends written on it. Upon joining I quickly learned that if I wanted to generate additional income by allowing people to view my webcam I would need to list my show in the Guys Home Alone (Gay) category, which would require me to submit documentation (so I could get naked). Upon submitting the documentation I was approved to do this.
After exploring iFriends I learned of the option to create a members-only website. On May 16, 2002 I registered the ToddyLive domain, which was initially hosted by iFriends. As time progressed though, changes were implemented that made the members-only website option less appealing.
I eventually was contacted by someone who had experience with members-only websites though. They suggested that I would be better off separating ToddyLive from iFriends. Their suggested alternative was to join CamZ, which would allow me to have greater control of my members-only website. The only stipulation was that I had to perform a 1-hour webcam show on their website 2 times a week. My members would have access to these shows, which I thought would be a great selling point, so I joined and transferred my domain to their servers shortly after.
Although I enjoyed the advantages that CamZ offered, I found it difficult to compete in an industry where potential members could get access to a slew of sites for the price of one. Somehow I stumbled upon Badpuppy, which would allow me to have even greater control of my members-only website. The only stipulation was that I had to update my website 2 times a month, which was more appealing to me than what was set forth by CamZ, so I joined and transferred my domain to their servers shortly after. I’m really happy as a contributor on Badpuppy, so I think it’s safe to say that the move here was my last. At some point though I will pull the plug and remove my online presence completely, but I don’t foresee that happening anytime soon.Labels: Random Thoughts |
